Türkiye is bordered by the Black Sea, the Aegean and the Mediterranean. It has a population of approximately 70 million, and is the largest country in the Eastern Mediterranean region. With over 7,200 kilometers of dramatic coastlines and its rich culture and historical traditions, the country is the perfect backdrop for Savarona sailing voyages.
Türkiye' s spectacular landscapes have witnessed the rise and fall of numerous civilizations and cultures such as the Hittites, Greeks, Byzantines, Seljuks and Ottomans, making it home to many World Heritage Sites. From the Aegean and Mediterranean Coasts, guests of the Savarona will explore ancient cities, bustling metropolises, and all of Türkiye's delights.
The currency is the Turkish Lira (TL). Türkiye is located 2 hours ahead of GMT. The capital city is Ankara. The largest city is İstanbul. Türkiye is secular state with a parliamentary democracy, and its population is predominately Muslim. The official language is Turkish.
The West and South Coasts of Türkiye have a typical Mediterranean climate, involving hot, sometimes humid summers and mild winters. In the Aegean region, the average temperature in May is approximately 25ºC. During the height of summer (June-August) temperatures can reach 35ºC. In September, temperatures begin to drop back to around 25ºC.
The Mediterranean region, due to its more southerly latitude, is a little warmer. Temperatures can reach 30ºC in May and rise to a peak of 35ºC-40ºC in June, July and August, before falling back to 30ºC in September.
Temperatures, naturally, are lower at sea.
